First of all, I want to tell everyone how awesome you are!
Mu-ah! I LOVE all your support and encouragement.
I know you're eagerly waiting to get more of Kan and the
team's story. I'm anxious for you to get it as well. To tell you the
truth, the publication of Taking on the Dead went WAY better than I
expected. I'm still in shock and awe of everyone's kind words and excitement.
No one will ever know how much that means to me as a new author.
With all the rush over it, I have to say, it added pressure.
A kind of pressure I wasn't expecting or even knew existed. My revisions for
Controlling the Dead are gruesome right now, even though they are nearly
complete. I felt I was rushing through it in order to get it to you. I couldn't
continue to push myself. It wasn't working and it was showing. I was getting
into a real funk over it, and reading negative reviews doesn't help. So I took
a much needed break for the holidays from revising and my regular social
networking. By the way, I hope Santa was good to everyone. If you're like me,
you probably had to buy your own gifts.
Taking on the Dead will be out in paperback in a few short weeks. It will be
available for purchase right here via Paypal, and I’ll sign it. I’ll also have
swag available for purchase (cheap) including Controlling the Dead swag.
As for Controlling the Dead...
As I’ve gotten back into the swing of things, I've picked
back up with revisions and editing. When I'm finished, I'll have more of a
timeline of when it'll be published. I know I originally planned to have it out
by now- only because it was already written. The thing about these revisions
though, I know some of you know this already, but when I first wrote The
Famished Trilogy, it was written in past tense. Not too long before I published
Taking on the Dead did I decide to turn it into present tense. So as I'm
revising, I'm also changing tense. Which is tedious. Very tedious. Please have
some patience with me... these are my first full novels. I probably shouldn't
have published them at all, but it is what it is. I can tell a huge difference
(when I get into the zone of my new series) in my writing. It’s improved since
I’m learning instead of typing out a story on the screen. As I write and
publish the less time it will take for me to revise and edit before sending it
off to betas and editors. I hope all of this makes sense.
My graphic designer and I are still working on the cover for
book two. For some reason, it's not right and it's already been through several
revisions. I've decided, today actually, I'm going to take my own photos for
the cover. I have a SUPER awesome friend, *cough* Laurin *cough* who will be
posing as Kan so this cover can be just as awesome as the first.
When revisions are done, I'll hold a giveaway for advanced readers copies. Keep checking back!
If you live in the area, I’ll be making some appearances…
I’ll be participating in a signing with some other talented indie authors. This includes Emily Goodwin, author of The Contagion
Trilogy. I want to make sure the date is certain before I give out that
information. It will be in the Nashville area in mid-March.
On April 13th, I’ll be transformed into a zombie for a Run
for your Lives event. There is still plenty of space for you to be turned into
a zombie as well. This event will be held in Chapmansboro, TN. CLICK HERE for more information!!!
June 28th-30th I’ll be at UTopYA in
Nashville, TN. Since this is a YA conference, I’m there as a reader. I’m going
to meet a lot of people in person that I’ve gotten to know in the past year.
Just because I’m not there on a panel or behind a booth does not mean I wouldn’t
love for you to join us!
Make sure to let me know if you are going!

I can't wait!

DeleteI'm so pleased for your success, Annie, although I'm sorry you've been under so much pressure. Best wishes for 2013! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you... and it's all I do to myself! =) Same to you, Emma!
DeleteGlad to hear it is all coming together ~ pressure is a killer and I'd hate to see you put something out there you aren't 100% proud of. That being said...I can not wait for the cover, the book, more Kansas, more Rudy...just more of your general awesomeness! ;) Ooh, and to meet you at UtopYA ~ yay!!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read this and Taking on the Dead!
ReplyDeleteAs for me and my writing, I've been hard at work!...And thanks to which, I haven't gotten very much up on my blog during the holiday season either! haha!
I HATE waiting, but I'm sure it'll be worth it! Hubbs is waiting with me...I had him read book 1 also and he is a Kansas fan now, too! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome, congrats!
ReplyDeleteAlso, take pictures of the Run For Your Life event! :D
I'm trying to get back into the swing of things but it's hard. I have A.D.H.D. and I'm lazy. Those two things are NOT a good combo. ;)
ReplyDeleteI loved your book and I'll be first in line for the next! Take your time. I know I'll love it!
ReplyDeleteGood things come to those who wait :-)
